January Weather Forecast 2018

Another cold month overall with temperatures rarely in double figures.

However the temperatures and airflow will not be condusive to widespread snowfall

Jan 1st - 3rd Windy and Stormy 8 to 10c

Jan 4th - 8th Cold and Frosty max 5c min -6c

Jan 9th - 11th Milder briefly 12c

Jan 12th - 19th A succession of cold NW winds and temperatures of 4 to 7c. Mins 2 to -2c

Jan 20th - 31st A drier pattern will develop with temperatures 7 to 10c by day and 0c at night

December 2017 Weather Forecast for Ireland

So we are already in December and hows it looking.

Well in summary

Dec 1st - 7th Mild but not much rain 8 to 13c

Dec 8th - 11th Cold and Wintry snow on hills 4 to 6c

Dec 12th - 18th Slightly milder but wet a few cold periods but Atlantic Westerly flow 7 to 9c

Dec 19th - 24th Very unsettled possibly stormy temps on borderline for snow 4 to 8c

Dec 25th Mild outlook at todays CFS chart. Around 8 to 11c. This constantly changes.

Dec 26th - 31st Showers of rain hail and sleet cold. 4 to 8c

Not too frosty this month bar a few -2c nights. Maybe one or two nights go to -5c around the 8th to 12th and again at Christmas.

Irelands cold spell day 2 and 3

Mountmellick in Laois suffered flooding
Its speading to Portarlington as well.
Sligo had temperature of 6c and some hail

On day 3 the snow was visible on Ben Bulben and hail fell widespread during a day that only peaked at 4c

Snow fell in Mayo mainly

Irelands Cold Spell 2017 Day 1

Temperatures in Sligo maxed out at only 6c and its currently 2.5c

50mm of rain fell in parts of Munster and Leinster with roads closed due to flooding.

A wide variety of temperatures were recorded with 5c in parts of Ulster but 14c in parts of Wexford and Waterford

Starting today Wednesday 22nd all the latest on this cold spell. Today ends with a 6c max in parts of the Northwest as a Polar Airmass sweeps down from Iceland bringing hail and sleet to the North and West

Wintry weather on way

The following 2 weeks will see half and half type weather. Half the time in Ireland it will be mild with temperatures of 10 to 13c while half the time it will be cold with temperatures at 6 to 10c. As is usually the case in this set up there will be more sun on the colder days and more rain on the milder ones.

Frosty nights are sure to feature too with minima down as low as -3c though there is a risk that towards the end of the month values could dip below minus 5.
