December 2020, Snow falls in some parts of Ireland

As of December 3rd there has been reports of snowfall in some locations. Mostly at high levels but also a dusting at lower levels too in Donegal and Galway. So will the snow continue. Well the cold certainly will however it has all to do with the 528 dam line what the freezing level is for snow to fall and that appears to be hovering around the 300m mark over most of Ireland but further North could be down as low as 100m at times. Certainly no repeat of 2010 but the temperatures would appear to be stuck in single figures until mid December. After this we will be getting a lot of the weather like we have got the past few years. Relatively mild and dry with just some mist or drizzle and temperatures of 8 to 11c.

So basically first half of December in Ireland will be cold but not bitter and second half will be mild but not extremely.

Long Range Weather December update

Cold spell now looks likely this coming week and it will stay cold from December 1st to possibly December 10th. After that it does look milder but during this period Ireland will have showers of rain hail sleet and snow and temperatures of 3c to 7c. Frost is also likely at night.

Long Range Weather for Ireland December 2020 and Christmas

So the start of December is still looking quite cold. Temperatures of 4 or 5c to be expected. If there is to be any snow in Ireland this side of Christmas this would appear to be the brief window of opportunity. Around December 4th looks particularly cold and could be in the low single figures.

Overall though the weather for December and Christmas looks quite and benign with no storms showing up at present. If you look out the window today, November 26th, that is probably what the weather will be like a lot of December with not too much in the way of heavy rain.

Temperatures around 10c for Christmas day and fair day weatherwise. All the Christmas period looks quiet with maybe colder weather as we break into the new year.

Long Range Weather for Ireland calls for cold December 2020

Much colder in fact than recent years. 2019 had a pretty cold November but it looks like 2020 is going to see that cold weather arrive a month later. This may raise hopes of a White Christmas but currently mid to late December is looking pretty dry and benign in Ireland.

The early part of December seems to be signalling a slight chance of snow in Ireland. This will have to be kept a close eye on as it is not set in stone.

Temperatures will be in the low single figures so it could well be a sleety mix. Most of December looks like it will be below 10c with little in the way of milder spells. It will also be drier  than normal which will help with Christmas shopping.

Christmas Mildness

Christmas Day weather for Ireland will stay mild with temperatures of 12 to 14c to start but by midnight only 3 to 5c in a cool westerly flow.

Meanwhile the North Pole is at melting point for Christmas day with the temperature there a shockingly high 0c.

The weather for Christmas looks mild wet and windy with temperatures of 8 to 10c for Ireland and very little chance of snow. The late November cold we saw has been replaced by much milder weather although a slight cooldown is signalled in late December.

No White Christmas

Unfortunately the forecast does not point toward a white Christmas this year as there is a High Pressure in the mild Atlantic Ocean that wants to visit Irelands shores for the festive season.

Temperatures are in fact going to be very mild making it a totally different scenario to what we experienced in last years Big Freeze when the temperature on Christmas morning was a lowly minus 17c.

Though the Christmas is not going to be white the long range forecast is looking at some cooler weather coming in for the New Year and some of the not so reliable long range models have some bitterly cold weather setting in for January 2012.
