July 2013 hottest in 100 years

The warmest July in over 100 years has just been experienced in Ireland with stations in Dublin and the West recording the hottest values. The hottest temperature courtesy of Met Eireann is 30.3c in Co. Kerry. Ken Ring who is a forecaster from New Zealand who famously predicted this warm July (as well as most Long Range Forecasters) is still upbeat about August especially the second half of the month.

However at weathergossip we do not see the same heat occurring in August that was there during July and we may have to wait another year to experience anything like that or longer. The second half of August does look like it will have a few sunny days especially in the East while the West is always more showery. However this is the way it has always been apart from that rare spell in July and a few warm Easterlies in April and May that we have seen in Sligo in recent years.

Mixed August 2013 on the cards

August over the past few years has seen conditions cool down a little in the Northwest of Ireland first and in the South of the country usually into the last week. For the past 6 years the last 10 days of August usually signal a more Autumnal feel to the air with cooler nights and this looks to be the case again this year. However dry days of 18 to 20c should indeed make it feel pleasant for the second half of the month as Ken predicted.

We do not hold any more rights to Mr Rings forecasts so with respect to him try his own site to see what else he says. weathergossip usually crawls as many of the Long Range weather model to try and gain an educated guess for the year. So far this Summer we have predicted warm spells and we did predict a hot July but more of a warm one than a hot one with us just predicting a warm temperature of 26c when it got to 30.3c in actual terms. This happens a lot because if we were to predict extreme values like that we would look very foolish if the temperature got to only 22c for example. However weathergossip is confident that 24c at least will be reached in August 2013 and most of this thundery rain will be gone by August 10th.
