Christmas 2021 Weather Forecast

Pinpointing the long range weather can be a difficult and somewhat tricky exercise especially as the past few months have been so mild. It would stand to reason then that Christmas 2021 would therefore turn out to be mild also here in Ireland.

However the weather always comes with a caveat and while so far the 2nd half of 2021 has been mild and benign the month of December this year from all the trends and long term forecasts looks like being one of transition.

As the month of November ends and Ireland gets battered by some windy episodes some milder weather will follow suit and we will be back in the benign pattern. However it is December now and nor October or November so the Northern push is a little stronger than before.

Most of the months this year have been milder than normal and some more than others but even though December is also trending milder there are strong signs of some colder episodes also so it does not look like it will be as excessively above normal as the first 20 days of November was.

So what does all this mean for Christmas? Well pinpointing the exact dates can be difficult but currently its looking like a strong low pressure sinks South around mid month. This will have the effect of dragging in colder Easterlies from Norway and strong frosts are possible during this time and wintry showers may bring some light sleet or snow.

However around December 20th some but milder weather is due to push back from the Atlantic and this will have the effect of bringing wet and windy weather all the way to Christmas.

Temperatures will be around 11c but in or around December 26th a cold front will move down from the Northwest bringing more wintry showers for a time before milder weather returns for the New Year.

So while overall the majority or December will be mild there will certainly be 2 cold spells that will likely be short lived but could bring some snow especially to the Northern half of Ireland.

Long Range Weather Forecast for August 2021 Ireland

August will certainly be a month of 2 halves.

The first half will be very wet and thundery with showers or longer spells of rain.

An improving trend from halfway with more in the way of warm sunny spells but still the odd thundery shower.

Temperatures will vary from 16 to 22c the first half but 20 to 24c in part 2.

Rainfall and temperature average will be above normal.

Sunshine around average.

Hot July?

All the signals are pointing to warmer weather as we head into July but how long will it last. We may at last see temperatures of 20c plus after only 3 days over 20c in Sligo during June so far. This figure will definitely be improved on during July in Ireland. The problem is a low to the SOutheast of Ireland which may push up and scupper all the good weather.

Warming up as we head into June but for how long?

The cold May weather should become a thing of the past in the coming days as we finally start to see some warmer than average conditions. How warm is a bit uncertain but surely 20c is on the cards for Ireland. The last day we had a temperature that high was April 1st!! Since we have had nearly 2 months of cold weather.

June will start off warm 18 to 22c but then get more thundery as we move into the month. As long as the thunder is from the South the weather will remain warm. After 2 months of cooling it needs to stay over us a long time for temperatures to respond. Its uncertain what happens after mid June at this stage.

Maybe we get dragged into a brief cooler regime before it heats up again at the end of the month.

Cold May on the cards for Ireland

May 2021 looks like it will be considerably colder than normal for Ireland. There could be even some snow on Thursday over high ground as temperatures will be in the single figures. There will also be frosts at night and lows below 0c.

It also appears as if May 2021 is going to be wetter than normal with more Low pressure systems returning to our shores from the Atlantic. These are going to bring unsettled conditions with rain or showers for Ireland on many of the days of May.

There really is no strong signal for any warm settled spell until possibly the end of the month and confidence on this is low.

Europe has also experienced a colder than average Spring with rain and snow and widespread frosts.

New Year Cold Weather

January 2021 has certainly started cold with wintry showers and some frost. This is how Januarys first 10 days will continue but after this it now looks mild and dry for Ireland.
