Weather for Spring 2017

Welcome to Irelands long range weather for Spring 2017. Here I will outline the expected conditions for Ireland this year. weathergossip has more information on the long range conditions. Also after June weathergossip moves here to the blog full time.

So onto the forecast.

MARCH

A cool start to the month with some Wintry showers and temperatures only in the range of 4 to 8c. A bracing Northwesterly wind will make it feel even colder than this. However as the month goes on conditions will get slightly milder with temperatures of 7 to 10c in light winds but there will be some rain or drizzle at time. The second half of March sees more in the way of dry weather with some frost at night. Temperatures will be 10c to 14c. Late month may see a return of unsettled conditions again.

APRIL

April sees more in the way of rain or showers with the weather pattern very mobile. This looks set to continue for the whole of the first half at least with even some cool weather at time adding a wintry mix in some of the showers in the Northwest. Temperatures will be 8 to 14c but later in the month there may be a 16 or 17c as winds begin to steer up from the South.

Wet and stormy Spring could be on the cards for Ireland

After the widespread Northern blocking that has occurred recently resulting in one of the driest Winters since 1995 we sure are due a bit of rain. Well never fear. For no sooner will you have said the word drought than the rivers and lakes will be bursting their banks once more.

Many Springs have come and gone in Ireland with people saying what a great start to Spring it has been no sooner to see it all dampened by a cold and with Summer. Its still too far to look at the  Summer 2017 forecastwhich early on looks quiet in the prospects with a similar pattern to whats been going on in the Winter, a lot of High Pressure about.

On the other hand, February. This month looks far more active than any of October, November, December or January but of course that wouldnt be hard as all these months had below the normal rainfall figures. The next 20 days see a much more mobile Atlantic flow moving in. Lets play it by ear and weathergossip will keep you up to date and of course this blog is regularly updated with the long term weather forecast for Ireland, where unlike other sites there is a detailed description, discussion and of course "gossip" about the upcoming weather.

So January is keeping frosty tonight but the rest of it is mild. Temperatures of 12 or 13c will occur and with 7 at night these are April averages.

But February is looking more mobile with rain strong winds and cold so look out.

Snow hits Ireland

Snow has hit most Ireland on January 12th 2017 with the West North and midlands seeing most of the snow.

The temperature only reached 4c and the wind was very strong also up to gale force 8. Met Eireann is predicting a milder weekend and slightly cooler next week. But what is going to happen after that?

Thats where weathergossip comes in. The long range weather sees a lot more Northern blocking so we will see a lot more dry weather but there is a huge risk that siberian air may start to incur in the East late next week. In any case it looks like High Pressure is set to dominate once again.

Actually rainfall this Winter has been only 60 to 80% of normal so far compared to over 200% of normal last Winter. As far as the rest of Winter is concerned a milder theme is favored and this could result in it again being among the mildest Winters of the past century.

Christmas Mildness

Christmas Day weather for Ireland will stay mild with temperatures of 12 to 14c to start but by midnight only 3 to 5c in a cool westerly flow.

Meanwhile the North Pole is at melting point for Christmas day with the temperature there a shockingly high 0c.
Santa looks like he may have to move to Greenlands North coast as its -18c there and -30c in Alaska.

The weather for Christmas looks mild wet and windy with temperatures of 8 to 10c for Ireland and very little chance of snow. The late November cold we saw has been replaced by much milder weather although a slight cooldown is signalled in late December.
