Winter set to be Colder than Average

The Winter of 2018/19 is looking like one of the colder ones we have seen. More especially the first half and especially December.

This will be due to widespread Northerly blocking where High Pressure pushes North towards Iceland and we are left in a cold flow of Easterlies.

This will likely happen during the period from October to December.

There is a possibility that there may be snow in Ireland even as early as October but widespread low level snow is not likely until December.

Sub zero temperatures will be frequent and expect lows of minus 3 in October minus 7 in November and minus 10 in December.

A low level El Nino event is beginning to take shape and I expect this to signal a milder 2nd part of Winter with heavy rains and gales.

August to remain changeable but warm

After the spectacular weather of June and July this Summer in Ireland the weather has turned more traditonal for the month of August 2018. Some warm days have been enjoyed with a temperature of 26.2c recorded in Oak Park earlier in the month. In most Augusts this would be quite a notable figure but in Summer 2018 26c went down as meh.

Although we have not yet seen the heavy rains of previous Summers the month of August seems to be bringing Ireland back to a dose of normal late Summer early Autumn weather.

With no one weather pattern favored for the rest of the month expect temperatures anywhere from 14 to 25c and rain at some time most days but rarely all day.

Spells of sunshine will be pretty frequent too with a mobile Atlantic pattern.
