Winter set to be Colder than Average
The Winter of 2018/19 is looking like one of the colder ones we have seen. More especially the first half and especially December.
This will be due to widespread Northerly blocking where High Pressure pushes North towards Iceland and we are left in a cold flow of Easterlies.
This will likely happen during the period from October to December.
There is a possibility that there may be snow in Ireland even as early as October but widespread low level snow is not likely until December.
Sub zero temperatures will be frequent and expect lows of minus 3 in October minus 7 in November and minus 10 in December.
A low level El Nino event is beginning to take shape and I expect this to signal a milder 2nd part of Winter with heavy rains and gales.

August to remain changeable but warm
After the spectacular weather of June and July this Summer in Ireland the weather has turned more traditonal for the month of August 2018. Some warm days have been enjoyed with a temperature of 26.2c recorded in Oak Park earlier in the month. In most Augusts this would be quite a notable figure but in Summer 2018 26c went down as meh.
Although we have not yet seen the heavy rains of previous Summers the month of August seems to be bringing Ireland back to a dose of normal late Summer early Autumn weather.
With no one weather pattern favored for the rest of the month expect temperatures anywhere from 14 to 25c and rain at some time most days but rarely all day.
Spells of sunshine will be pretty frequent too with a mobile Atlantic pattern.

Ireland in deep freeze next week
UPDATE WARNING
Heavy snow will plaster Ireland from next week with the worst of the snow happening from Wednesday to Friday.
Ireland is set for a deep freeze starting on Sunday night into Monday. As air travelling all the way from Siberia lodges itself over Ireland we will struggle to get above 0c at all and the nights will be even colder.
Heres a guide of what to expect in the major towns and cities in Ireland next week
Sligo - heavy frosts and nighttime temperatures of -6c. Highs 3c. Some wintry showers from next Tuesday. Heavier snow possible on March 1st. Further cold weather thereafter
Dublin - Heavy snow settling from next Tuesday. Frost at night. -2c and 2c by day.
Cork - Frost and some snow. Lows -3c Highs 2c
Galway - Cold and frosty. Light snow at times. Highs 4c Low -4c
Mullingar - Snow settling from Tuesday. Lows of -8c possible. Could get to -10c over snowfields.
Northern Ireland similar to Dublins forecast. Midlands will follow Mullingars outlook. As will other regions follow the weather in the towns and cities closest to them.
So until tomorrow with the next update enjoy the frosty night and see you all tomorrow

Coldest Weather of Winter on way
Ireland is about to suffer an intense spell of bitterly cold weather unlike anything we have seen in February and March since 1963.
Daytime temperatures will struggle to reach 0c from next week with widespread snow for many days.
This is all due to the Sudden Stratospheric Warming event that is now happening. Most guidance has temperatures 6c below the February average of 5 to 8c
Snow will be mainly on the East and North but could fall absolutely anywhere.
